N. Singh — Azaad Kalam

N. Singh is a Hindi writer who connects history and the present through a single question — how well do we understand our own society? His work began with historical research in Purvanchal and now addresses national questions of democracy, the census, the farm crisis and nationalism.

One Author, Three Names

Readers know him by different names on different books. All of them belong to the same author:

  • N. Singh (एन. सिंह) — on his books on contemporary politics, agriculture and the environment
  • Nathuni Singh (नथुनी सिंह) — on his books on Buddha Dhamma and historical research
  • Nathuni Singh Kodanna (नथुनी सिंह कोदन्ना) — on ‘Sainthawar Aur Mall Kaun?’

History and Buddha Dhamma

As Nathuni Singh, he researched the historical journey from the Buddha-era Shakya and Malla republics to the Sainthwar-Malla community of Purvanchal, and wrote on Buddha Dhamma’s contribution to Indian civilisation. Several of these works were published by Vishwavidyalaya Prakashan, Varanasi.

A Fearless Pen on Contemporary India

As N. Singh, his books examine the contradictions of Indian democracy, the collapse of farming, the environmental crisis and showy nationalism. His latest book, ‘Ginti Se Satta Tak’ (2026), describes the caste census and electoral arithmetic as India’s “untold war”.

Azaad Kalam and Chintansheel Awaz

Azaad Kalam (“Free Pen”) is his writing platform — Question • Thought • Dialogue — a space not for promoting any ideology, but for trying to understand. Chintansheel Awaz (“Thoughtful Voice”) is its video extension, where he speaks directly on ground-level issues, in Hindi.
